The 8 Month Plan

My husband and I are in the process of buying a new house. It won’t be ready for move-in until some time next summer, but he and I both agree that we need to get this clutter under control before we move in so that it doesn’t happen there too.

Which means I have about 8 months (give or take) to tame the beast and take control of my life.

I want our new house (our first house!) to look clean and stylish like Nicole’s drool-worthy abode (Making it Lovely), and not like the disaster area it currently is. She’s 6 months into living in her new home, and she certainly is making it lovely in so many ways. Following her blog helped inspire me to make this one and to resolve to get my clutter in check. You can take a virtual tour of her place over on Apartment Therapy. Check out the other inspirational homes there as well!

Our new place will be 1367 square feet of fresh new space, so I don’t want to junk it up. It’s much larger than where we live now, but I do not want my clutter to act like a proverbial goldfish and grow to fill the extra room.

This new house is my main inspiration for finally admitting to myself that I have a clutter problem, and taking steps to fix it.   What is your biggest reason for wanting to get rid of your clutter?

Moving can definitely help control the clutter. We have moved more than 15 times (to 10 different locations) in the last 13 years and every time we move, we get rid of even more clutter.

You are right; I have managed to get rid of boxes and boxes of clutter every time I’ve moved in the last few years. Unfortunately for me, I still have loads!
I don’t want to have to pack and move anything that counts as clutter into my new home, so I’ve got my work cut out for me!
