If you have a lot of items that need to be charged, you need a simple way to prevent the cords from becoming tangled and in the way. Not to mention the fact that you should create a central location to charge all of your gadgets, so you’ll never have to look for where you left the charging cord. A handy charging station takes care of all this for you.
If you’re like me, you have a small army of tech gadgets, all of which need to be charged at some point. I have a little mound of chargers and cables around my power bar. I originally tried to keep them neatly wound up when not in use, but I don’t always remember to wind up the cable when I’m done charging the device. At best, the neat pile would last a few days. At worst, I have to run around looking for where I left my cell phone because one day I happened to charge it in another room.
A good solution would be to use a charging station to keep everything organized and in one location. I found this charging station at KangaRoom Storage (I love that name!).

KangaRoom Cell Phone Charging Station

It features four compartments where you can charge your individual devices (cell phone, iPod, Blackberry, etc.) and keeps the cords out of the way. Just slide a power strip behind it and tuck the whole unit neatly on your desk. A removable key tray at the top allows easy access to the cords, and adds yet another use to this compact charging station.
If you have multiple similar gadgets, or want to use it as a charging station for the family, it comes with little labels so you can tell at a glance which plug is which.
Do you use a charging station to keep your cables in order? If so, please tell me about it! Bonus points if you made your own instead of buying one! EDITED TO ADD: Here are some great examples of do-it-yourself charging stations.

Oh I love those organizers ~ Pottery Barn has a really nice one! If only I had a plug anywhere near my front hall table… I think it would defeat the de-cluttering purpose to have yet another long extension cord running through the room
I found this one at Pottery Barn, is that the one you mean? It’s nice looking!
I was looking at Ikea and I wonder if I could make a charging station out of the FIRA 9-drawer chest? I think it would only take a bit of drilling…
Now that you’ve cleared your desk of clutter, you might like to do the same with your computer desktop. I wrote a short procedure that shows you how to create a nice layout with which to replace your wallpaper and then to re-arrange your icons to fit each slot. Crucial final step is to “fix” the icons in place…

Hey, thanks for the blog post, but can you tell me what’s this theme you’re using in your blog? Thanks in advance, Pete
Hey Pete,
It’s a custom theme made just for me by Purr Designs.
I have a charging station on my desk for my ipod, cell phone, digital camera, etc. Between my wife and I, we had to spend a few bucks here and there to replace chargers that we lost or misplaced. Can’t tell you how many times we ran around the house like flight of the bumblebees looking for a cell phone charger before we went out of town. Our desk charger has solved that.
An even better method is one of those little solar charging stations you can get from amazon these days. if you get plenty of sunshine in your office, it would make for a really cool investment..
