I would love to welcome all Get Rich Slowly readers to Clutter Cubed, a blog that helps real people create calming space in life and at home. A huge thank you to J.D. for publishing my guest post. Thank you!

I’m Caitlin Thompson, and I write Clutter Cubed to help people (myself included) get a handle on their clutter and organize their home and life. This goes beyond the “Stuff” that J.D. writes about occasionally, and includes everything from cluttered schedules to mental clutter to cluttered finances.

Since you come from GRS, an awesome personal finance blog, you might be interested in some of the more money-saving posts here at C3:

I’m here from GRS and first of all: Congrats on your amazing story! It’s hard to believe that one hour and $45 made such a huge difference!

Your guest post couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m the type of person that lives in a clutter-free home – unless you open any closet, drawer or cabinet! It’s frustrating and makes keeping things tidy so much more difficult. Right now, tackling this issue seems overwhelming but I know it can be done and it will be done!

We’re a military family so we pack up and move every three years. In theory this should be an awesome way to get rid of “stuff” and it does help, but there’s still so much chaos that just finds it way from one duty station to the next.

I guess I need a plan, and it looks like you have some wonderful advice collected here!

I’m glad my article is helpful! I was a little worried about writing something that would be read by so many people, but it turned out all right. ^_^

I hope the information here at ClutterCubed will be useful to you as well! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you’ll come back soon!

Hi, I’m also here from GRS. Great article on cutting down the mortgage. When I had one I went with weekly payments from the start and it cut 5 years off a 25 year mortgage. I know it sounds odd to some that going to bi-weekly payments from monthly ones could reduce your mortgage by 16 years but it’s got to be because you pay *so much* interest over the course of a 40 year mortgage (and so much of your payment in the early years is interest, with maybe only a few dollars going to principal) that the small change creates a real avalanche of saving over the years.

I’m also Canadian, blogging mostly about PF and life but clutter is also a big issue for me, especially right now. I’ve been in the midst of a bathroom reno forever and 2 weeks ago had to empty out my daughter’s room so that a huge crack in her ceiling could be repaired. My Son-in-Law is coming along with that but needs 1 or 2 more adult guys to help him get the new drywall sheet up and attached. It really isn’t something one person can do. In the meantime all Dear Child’s possessions are all over the living room and kitchen/dining area. You can imagine how that adds to the ambience around here!

Oh yes, I also have kitchen cabinets falling apart on me (so food stacked up and visible) and no room anywhere to do anything. And with my daughter’s room sealed off I can’t reach the laundry area without going outside and upstairs into my grown daughter’s part of the house, then down the basement stairs. The last time I actually did laundry was on New Year’s because I took 2 loads with me to our rural home!

Whoa! You’ve sure got a lot going on right now! I wish you luck getting everything fixed up and sorted out!

I think you’re totally right that it must be mostly interest that’s cut out of a mortgage when you switch to more frequent payments. I still owe the same dollar amount, it’ll just take a lot less time to pay it off, resulting in a lot less interest!
